Maria Kowollik

The contralto Maria Kowollik studied singing at the Hanover University of Music and Drama with Prof. Charlotte Lehmann and privately musical interpretation with Dr. Ernst Huber-Contwig. She has won prizes at national and international competitions (Hanover, Munich, Berlin, Vienna and Barcelona).

In the course of her international concert activities she has premiered numerous works. Important composers have composed especially for Maria Kowollik, such as Foss, Globokar, Gubaidulina and Febel. Guest contracts have taken her to the opera houses of Bielefeld, Bremen, Dortmund and Hanover, among others. At the Munich Biennale 2002 she sang the alto part in the world premiere of André Werner's opera Marlowe: The Jew of Malta. Numerous radio and television recordings bear witness to her versatile activity (among others ARD, ZDF, RAI Italia, Radio France).

Since 1994 Maria Kowollik has been professor of voice at the Hochschule für Künste Bremen.

International master classes in Haus Marteau (Upper Franconia), in Skopje (Macedonia), in Turku (Finland) and in Pargas (Finland June/July 2004).
